NEW ADVENTURE: TIFO BRANDING
I’m massively excited to announce a new branch of my art and design adventure: Tifo Branding.
Michael “Hitch” Hitchcock (owner of PMI and ProRel Soccer Ventures, as well as multiple soccer teams domestically and abroad) and I have combined forces to form a soccer-specific branding agency. We're concentrating on helping soccer team brands either get up and running with a new brand, rebrand, or brand refresh. We have worked together on many brands, including Annapolis Blues FC, Lubbock Matadors SC, and many more.
Don’t worry, though: Echo Seven Design Co. is still going strong, and I’ll still continue work here. In fact, E7DC is the co-owner of Tifo Branding. So, you’ll still see amazing non-soccer work here.
What the Hell is That Name and Logo?
I’ve been a soccer supporter for many years, and I have played a part in SG leadership at the MLS, National Team and NPSL level. I’ve sewed massive sheets of muslin together in our living room to prepare for large-scale painting, coordinated and implemented the painting and game-day display of tifo, and led supporters sections in chants and songs as a capo.
I say all that to give you a little context. “Tifo” is the term used in the soccer world for the banners and large scale art displays supporters unveil before first kick at big matches. They’re meant to energize the stadium and intimidate the opposing side. This started overseas, but some MLS supporters groups have taken up the mantle with some truly amazing entries (see Portland, Seattle, etc).
Our logo is a nod to the process of creating these masterpieces. The icon is a T in the shape of a paint roller, which is a tifo painter’s best friend. The text is a stylized nod to stencils sometimes used for text.
I’m ridiculously excited about launching this venture officially.
